A Senior IBM/AIX Power Systems Engineer is a high-level infrastructure role responsible for designing, building, and maintaining enterprise-grade IBM Power server environments. This expert manages mission-critical workloads, virtualization, and High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) solutions.
Infrastructure Architecture: Design, implement, and manage complex IBM Power Systems stacks, including IBM PowerVM and Virtual I/O Server (VIOS).
OS & Hardware Management: Administer operating systems like IBM AIX,Manage hardware layers using Hardware Management Consoles (HMC).
Storage & SAN Integration: Oversee storage arrays (e.g Support integration with Dell EMC PowerMax storage ;IBM FlashSystem, IBM DS Series), ensuring seamless connectivity and optimal SAN performance.
HA/DR Solutions: architect resilient environments using solutions like PowerHA or MIMIX to ensure maximum uptime for enterprise ERPs.
Automation & Scripting: Reduce manual toil by developing infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automation scripts (e.g., Ansible).
Mentorship: Serve as an escalation point for junior engineers, troubleshooting performance bottlenecks and complex outages.
Required Qualifications
Technical Proficiency: Deep working knowledge of HMC, VIOS, and enterprise storage arrays.
Frameworks: Familiarity with ITIL processes, incident/change management, and security compliance.
Certifications: Strongly valued, including IBM Certified System Administrator (IBM AIX), IBM Power Systems, and IBM Storage Certifications
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
5-10+ years of experience administering IBM AIX environments.
Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise systems.
Knowledge of Linux on IBM Power is an advantage.
Familiarity with cloud platforms and automation tools is desirable.
